Project 003 – Adirondack House
A modern farmhouse in a remote area of the Adirondack Mountains that has been in the client’s family for generations is a study in balance. The vision for the architecture of the home was distinctly minimalist and thus our goal became adding warmth, character and nuance. Color was used intentionally so that it felt in harmony with the lushness of the surrounding landscape.
In the den, a photograph by Michael Gaillard of the property at dawn hangs above the sofa, where vintage Japanese and French textile pillows fill a deep slipcovered sofa. In the dining area, a custom table is paired with a set of brutalist chairs sourced at the Paris flea market which look as if they could have been built by a local craftsman. While many of the antiques were sourced in England and France, plenty of pieces feel distinctly American — like a green painted wicker console and a Hepplewhite table in the living room — and keep the space rooted in its surroundings.
